This depends almost entirely on the size and scope of the project. Gutters on a townhome can sometimes be done in as little as an hour or two. A large single home, with 40’ roof eaves and gutter protection, might take a full day.

No, you certainly don’t have to. With that being said, if the fascia or soffit do need to be replaced, or will need to be replaced within a reasonable time period, it would be much better to take care of them before or with the gutters. This just avoids having to remove the freshly installed gutters to replace the other items.  Also, if the work is all done at the same time and by the same company, it’s easier to keep everything clean and matching.

Never, because you should buy gutter protection. The vast majority of homes in our area have pipes that run down into the ground to carry the water collected in the gutters away from the home.  If you let any amount of leaves and debris get caught up in the gutters, it is almost certainly going to make it’s way down into those infiltration pipes and clog them up.  If you elect to go without gutter protection, you should be cleaning the gutters very frequently.

Yes. If the gutters get clogged, they will start to overflow or overrun, which means instead of all of the roof water running down the gutter and away from the home, it will pour right over near the base of the home, which can cause erosion and penetration down into the soil and up against foundation walls.

Some can. If the gutters are new, well-maintained, and properly installed. Leaf Sentry and Gutter Helmet are great for adding on to existing gutters. Other styles have to be installed when the gutters are going on.

If the downspouts drain to the yard, you can just verify that the water is coming out of the downspouts properly. If the downspouts drain into infiltration piping, you can make sure water isn’t overflowing from the top. That isn’t a guarantee that they aren’t draining a bunch of debris down into your piping though!

Underground drainage for gutters is much more of a landscaping issue than a gutter and downspout issue.  Putting the infiltration pipe down can be done by anyone, but unfortunately we don’t do landscaping, and to dig out the pipe, and fix the yard afterwards, it’s much better to bring out someone that specializes in those things!
